Damian Marley & NAS… Distant Relatives

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

This Sunday we made the trek down to Seattle to check out the closest stop of Jr Gong and NAS’ Distant Relatives Tour. The hip hopin’ rasta crowd put out a irie vibe and a thick cloud of smoke, in the funky converted warehouse venue of the Showbox Sodo. This was my forth time seeing Damian live and the best show yet! Check it out if you get the chance. Jah, Rastafari.

Jack Hannan - A True Mountain Man

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

“ On wednesday March 31st we lost Jack Hannan to an Avalanche in Pemberton …”

Jack and I have been friends for several years now. I met Laura and him back in the days of Freeskiing contest, where even after his days of competing were over, he would always be at comps to support Laura. I remember the first time I saw Jack ski, ripping down Ruby Bowl at the last Canadian Freeskiing Championship, on Blackcomb. To this day he daring line rarely gets skied. Stars and Stripes they call it.

Jack and I always ran into each other in ramdom spots. We would talked about trips, peaks and just about anything worth talking about, he always had a story of some new adventure or idea. Last year Jack and Laura had just skied the North West Couloir on Wedge, and were telling us about it over a friend’s bonfire. Inspired by their adventures Dom and I went straight from the bonfire to the Wedge Trail head and dropped off the truck, our next day was planned: bag Wedge. Jack always had plans. He was constantly striving after new conquests and adventures. I looked up to him, trying to pick his brain for new ideas.  Jack was such a great person to hang out with, he always had a grin on his face, that let you know he had some new plan up his sleeve.  He was up for anything, skiing, hiking, biking, you name it…

Over the past few years, while they were living in Pemby, you would often hear stories of Jack and Jon bagging another big one out in the backcountry.  He continued to check things off his endless list up until the day he died.  Jack was the true definition of a Mountain Man.  He is dearly missed and will always be remembered.
My thoughts go out to Laura, his family and all the friends he leaves behind.

Rest in peace my friend.

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

On location with the Sherpas for the ALL I CAN project. We came here to the taste the candy that the Chillkat range had to offer us. Lucky for us it went code blue and we got to ski the spines of Haines. Truly some of the most epic skiing on earth. Thank you to the heavenly state of Alaska. Here’s a little slide show we put together in the RV. Photos by Kye and I
